The Life of the Sufi Poet of Love by Brad Gooch

The event at IAIA featured an introduction to Gooch's work researching and documenting the life of Rumi, the 13th-century poet whose spiritual works of literature are considered crucial to Christians, Muslims and Jews alike, bridging the gap between traditional Persian love poetry and Western mythical poetry. Between learning Farsi so as to read Rumi in the original and provide his own translations, and traveling Rumi's life path across 2,500 miles of Iran, Turkey, Syria, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, Gooch's research in writing Rumi's Secret has made him one of today's foremost scholars on the subject.

Gooch was joined by Maryam Mortaz and IAIA Founder Mohammed Rashid Al-Thani in selected readings of Rumi's poetry in the original Farsi and Arabic respectively, as well as in Gooch and Mortaz's own English translations.
